Intended as a stepping stone to university and/or professional qualifications, this course is the perfect first step towards a career working for a local business, an international corporation or as an entrepreneur. There is an emphasis on developing employability and entrepreneurial skills, with ICT heavily embedded to develop your knowledge of MS Office and other business software.
Project Management Pathway option:
Specialising in project management will allow you to develop your future career prospects in this highly competitive and lucrative field. Successful students can progress to B&FC's award-winning Foundation Degree and BSc (Hons) Project Management, delivered at B&FC's University Centre in Blackpool and awarded by Lancaster University (a UK top 10 university). Past students are now enjoying rewarding careers with BAE Systems and other major companies such as Rolls Royce.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C including Maths and Science. Applicants with a grade 3 in English will be accepted, but must study a GCSE in English alongside this programme.
The course covers a range of practical and theory units, such as marketing, business resources, business environment, recruitment and selection, and developing teams in business. You may also choose to study Project Management and take part in excellent work experience opportunities with BAE and Rolls Royce.
Assessment is by a variety of methods, including presentations, reports, mock interviews as well as online and written assignments.
To truly understand the world of business you need to get out and experience it. That’s why we organise trips and work placements at places such as Chester Zoo, Business in Leisure Conference at Alton Towers, the Trafford Centre and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Most people who study the Business Extended Diploma progress onto degree courses covering disciplines such as marketing, accounting and finance, events management, retail and business studies. Others might prefer to start their career sooner; if this is you, opportunities exist locally in a range of public and private sector organisations.
