EARLY YEARS EDUCATOR/CHILDREN’S PLAY, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
If you’re keen to make a positive contribution to the lives and welfare of children, this two-year programme is for you. Featuring a variety of core and specialist childcare modules, the programme also includes a 750-hour work placement to allow you to develop sector-based practice. It provides the ideal foundation for higher education and/or gaining a licence to practise in childcare settings.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C including Maths and Science. Applicants with a grade 3 in English will be accepted, but must study a GCSE in English alongside this programme.
A whole raft of topics will address the educational, social and justice aspects of children’s lives. We aim to prepare you to engage effectively and sensitively with children and their families.
Assessment is made up of written coursework assessments, a placement portfolio and an external exam. You will be assessed on your placement performance and by continuous assignments.
Students will complete 750 work placement hours within early years settings, to include nursery, pre-school and primary education.
Students have enjoyed visits to meditation centres, sensory environments, forest schools and conventions, which have allowed them to see theory in practice.
You can choose between continuing your studies at degree level or entering the childcare sector straight away at supervisory level. The number of child and early years officers in the northwest is set to grow by 15% by 2022*. Other popular careers include primary school teaching, child psychology and children’s social work.
