If you’re hands-on, analytical and logical, engineering is an exciting and rewarding career choice. Designed with both universities and employers in mind, this programme will prepare you for the growing number of opportunities becoming available. You will develop subject-specific knowledge alongside practical and problem-solving skills as you specialise in one of three distinct branches of engineering: Aeronautical; Electrical and Electronic; and Manufacturing.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C including Maths and Science. Applicants with a grade 3 in English will be accepted, but must study a GCSE in English alongside this programme.
You will study topics such as electrical and electronic principles, mechanical principles and applications, computer-aided design (CAD), hydraulic and pneumatic, and systems and programmable logic controllers.
Assessment takes place through a range of methods, including presentations, written assignments, practical tasks, examinations and an engineering project. Part of the course will be based at Lancashire Energy HQ, equipped with industry-standard resources.
Contextual learning is embedded within this programme and our students have enjoyed collaborating on projects with employers such as Magellan Engineering and Blackpool Transport.
Successful completion of the programme will qualify you to continue your studies to degree level. Doing an industry apprenticeship is also an option and we have excellent links with organisations such as BAE Systems, Westinghouse Springfields, EDF Energy, Scanlite Electronics, SPS Europe Ltd and United Utilities.
