UNIFORMED PUBLIC SERVICES
This exciting and active course provides the skills and knowledge needed for a rewarding career with the Police, Fire Service, Armed Forces, Paramedics or Prison Service. There is a strong industry focus, with projects and assignments being based on realistic workplace situations and activities led by vocational experts. You will also have an opportunity to improve your physical fitness, as well undertake volunteering via our excellent employer links.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C including Maths and Science. Applicants with a grade 3 in English will be accepted, but must study a GCSE in English alongside this programme.
You will study topics such as government policies and the public services, leadership and teamwork, fitness testing, crime and its effects on society, responding to emergency incidents, and exercise, health and lifestyle.
You will be assessed through various methods, including presentations, projects, essays, observations, audio and video interviews, practical performance and reports.
Opportunities such as volunteering, spending a week in one of the armed forces and undertaking a week’s residential as part of the National Citizen Service programme help you identify viable career paths and develop key employability skills. Other enrichment activities have included an army based residential, marines training day and a number of outdoor and adventurous activities.
Many students go on to study a degree in public services or a related discipline such as criminology. The employment opportunities in this field are vast, spanning both the uniformed public services (police, fire and rescue, ambulance, prison, armed forces) and sectors such as customs and excise, the media, government, local councils and private security.
