The value of work experience cannot be overstated when it comes to making applications for university and employment.
All our Level 3 Triple Diplomas feature work placements and live briefs to allow you to gain industrial experience in your chosen subject area. We have a Specialist Practitioner dedicated to sourcing and monitoring high-quality work experience opportunities for students.
We also have excellent relationships with local employers, which enable us to offer cross-functional placements, often with a community theme.
In many cases, students can choose how long they want their placement to last. Some even opt to do an additional placement in order to widen their skill set.
Hannah Dennison, who is studying the BTEC Level 3 Triple Diploma in Early Years Educator/Children's Play, Learning and Development, explains why her work placement has been such a key part of her learning experience here at LSFC.
"Work experience at Lytham Sixth Form College has really benefitted me because it has influenced me on what I want to do in the future. I originally wanted to complete my work placement in a primary school as I wanted to be a teacher but after completing my first placement at a local nursery I decided to follow this career and work with younger children. I am now aiming to become a nursery manager and hopefully will run my own nursery in the future.”
What our partner employers say:
“We are currently working in partnership with Lytham Sixth Form College to deliver a Cadetship, which combines academic learning with placements in the hospital. This allows the cadets to link knowledge with practice and provides them with a wealth of experience, which will help with their future career progression. We also offer work experience placements throughout the Trust, for students to gain an insight into their chosen career pathways, or to confirm their career aspirations.
The experience gained on the work experience programme supports their individual UCAS statements when applying to universities. By supporting both of these initiatives, the Trust is proud of its investment in young people and is hopeful that they will gain employment with the Trust and become our workforce of the future.” Karen Straw, Workforce Development Manager Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
“Magellan Aerospace has worked extensively with Lytham Sixth Form College to support student work placements and has always found the experience to be a positive one. Both staff and students have taken the work placements seriously in an industry that demands a high level of self-discipline and work accuracy while maintaining a safe working environment.” Steve Oakley Magellan Aerospace (Blackpool) Ltd
“LSFC has very approachable, helpful, friendly and positive staff, always willing to go above and beyond. As a nursery group, we approached the teaching team to see if we could help and assist in any lessons; the college was very happy, which not only supports staff development in teaching but gives the students a new perspective of a nursery group. The company has recently employed four students from Lytham Sixth Form College, who attended placements with us through their college course. All four members of staff are hardworking and knowledgeable and are a fantastic role model to current students at the college. Thank you to the college for training and developing the students to be confident, hardworking and dedicated members of staff.”Learning Curve Nurseries (Shepherd Lodge Nursery)
